Uterine Cancer Treatment

Uterine cancer, also known as endometrial cancer, is a type of cancer that begins in the lining of the uterus (the endometrium). It is the most common cancer of the female reproductive system.

Signs & Symptoms of Uterine Cancer:

  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding (especially after menopause)
  • Pelvic pain or discomfort
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Painful urination or difficulty emptying the bladder
  • Fatigue or weakness
  • Heavier or longer-than-usual periods in pre-menopausal women

If you experience any of these symptoms, it is essential to seek medical attention as early diagnosis is critical for successful treatment.

Diagnosis of Uterine Cancer:

To diagnose uterine cancer, our team uses a combination of tests and procedures, including:

  • Pelvic Exam: A physical examination to check for abnormalities in the uterus.
  • Ultrasound: A non-invasive imaging tool to look for growths or tumors in the uterus.
  • Endometrial Biopsy: A small sample of the uterine lining is taken and examined for cancerous cells.
  • Hysteroscopy: A procedure in which a thin tube with a camera is inserted into the uterus to examine the lining and take tissue samples.
  • D&C (Dilation and Curettage): A procedure to remove a portion of the uterine lining for further testing.
  • CT Scan or MRI: Used to determine the extent of cancer and check if it has spread to other parts of the body.

Advanced HIPEC treatment Wertheim’s hysterectomy, cytoreduction surgery

Advantages of this combination

    • Advanced Cancer Control
    • Improved Survival Outcomes
    • Careful Patient Selection
    • A Promising Option

Key Aspects of HIPEC:

  • High concentrations of chemotherapy delivered directly to the tumor site.
  • Reduced side effects compared to systemic chemotherapy.
  • Heat enhances the effectiveness of the chemotherapy drugs.
  • Potentially extends survival in patients with advanced abdominal cancers

Wertheim’s Hysterectomy:

  • Removal of the uterus, cervix, part of the vagina, and surrounding tissues.
  • Involves dissection of pelvic lymph nodes to assess the extent of cancer spread.
  • Performed for cervical cancer that is confined to the pelvis.
  • May be combined with other cancer treatments like radiation or chemotherapy.

Who Can Benefit from These Treatments?

  • Patients with advanced-stage abdominal cancers
  • Those diagnosed with cervical cancer requiring Wertheim’s hysterectomy.
  • Patients in whom cancer has spread within the abdominal cavity but is still potentially curable with an aggressive surgical approach.

Cancer Treated with this combination

HIPEC delivers heated chemo after surgery to target abdominal cancer cells. Wertheim’s hysterectomy removes the uterus and cervix. Cytoreduction surgery reduces tumor size, often paired with HIPEC.

Key Aspects of Cytoreductive Surgery:

  • Removal of as much visible tumor tissue as possible from the abdominal cavity.
  • Often involves resecting parts of multiple organs affected by cancer.
  • Usually followed by HIPEC to target residual cancer cells.
  • Improves survival rates for patients with advanced-stage cancers.
